Through Black Spruce is the third book that I have read by Joseph Boyden. It was my least favorite of the three but still a great read! It tells the story of a native bush pilot who has been in a coma. His niece spends time at his bedside and tells the stories of going South to Toronto, to Montreal and later to New York to find her sister. Her sister is a model who fell in with the wrong crowd and is missing. As the niece tells her story almost as a form of therapy, the pilot’s story unwinds. Boyden is an accomplished Canadian writer whose books should be part of high school curriculum.
